Chaos between us

The application is a VR experience set in a scenario reminiscent of present-day Gaza during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The child user is searching for his brother, who has been captured by a group of settlers who attacked their village. The user does not remember what happened because he was knocked unconscious by a blow.

In their search, the user explores three main environments:

In their village, they interact with their distraught mother and a peer who tells them more about the attack.

In the hospital, they meet the only doctor in the area, who is busy saving lives. Here, the user is urged to help the war wounded. Meanwhile, they ask about their brother, if he has been seen.

In the camp, they rescue a lame boy, interact with the invading soldiers, perceiving their brutality, and talk to an old widower: they share with him the loss of a loved one.

A tragic end awaits them, symbolising the cruelty of the world and a conflict that hurts without looking anyone in the face.

The aim is to raise awareness of the dramatic events of a discriminatory war, evoking situations that would otherwise remain distant from the user and only exist in their imagination.

The platform is a desktop VR system (computer, mouse and keyboard). The target audience is people over the age of 16 who are interested in experiencing the feelings of those who have actually lived through war.

Startup instructions:

1. Unzip the folder.
2. Grant execution permissions:
   • Linux: open the terminal and navigate to the extracted folder. Run the command chmod +x ChaosBetweenUs.x86_64. Then double‑click ChaosBetweenUs.x86_64 to launch it.
   • MacOs: open the terminal and navigate to the extracted folder. Run the command chmod +x ChaosBetweenUs.app/Contents/MacOS/*. Then double‑click ChaosBetweenUs.app to launch it.
3. If a pop‑up appears blocking the launch due to the absence of a digital signature verifying the author:
   • Windows and Linux: click Run anyway or a similar option.
   • MacOS: click open again to confirm and allow the app to run. If macOS still prevents the application from launching, open System Settings → Privacy & Security then. Scroll down to the section that says the app was blocked and click Allow Anyway.
